ROCÍO MUÑOZ

Artist Bio
Rocio Muñoz

(Born 1985)

Originally from Seville, Rocío Muñoz has carved out a distinctive voice within the landscape of contemporary Spanish art. She trained at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Seville, where she honed her technical mastery and artistic sensitivity. Her pursuit of evolving pictorial language led her to complete several master's degrees and specialized courses in contemporary art, shaping a practice that is both rigorous and deeply reflective.

Her work falls within the realm of hyperrealism, yet it presents a visual paradox that challenges perception: from a distance, her paintings appear three- dimensional, but as the viewer approaches, they reveal themselves to be entirely flat. Working exclusively in oil on canvas, she achieves a near-photographic precision that plays with the illusion of volume.

Rocío Muñoz draws inspiration from nature—specifically, from the forms taken by clay as it is eroded by rain along paths and trails. The traces, grooves, and fleeting textures left by water on the earth become silent protagonists in her compositions. Through meticulous observation and impeccable execution, she transforms the ephemeral into the enduring, the humble into the sublime. Her work invites slow contemplation, where matter becomes metaphor and the
painted surface a space of revelation. With each canvas, Rocío Muñoz offers a sensory experience that oscillates between the tangible and the illusory, between the natural and the pictorial.
