Kate Ferrell is a mixed media artist known for her abstracted florals and landscapes. She was recently featured in The Scouted Studio’s Spring Emerging Artist Show and selected as one of 37 artists from over 750 applicants for Shain Gallery’s Up and Coming Invitational this summer in Charlotte, NC. Her work has

caught the attention of designers including Taylor and Huie, a high-end interior design studio in Knoxville.

Additional past juried exhibitions include the MBA Art Show (Nashville), Artclectic (Nashville), ArtXtravaganza (Knoxville), District Gallery (Knoxville), & Spotlight on Art (Atlanta).

Influenced by childhood summers in the Great Smoky Mountains and by the organic rhythms of her mother’s garden, Kate’s work is a celebration of color, shape, texture, and pattern. With a background in clinical social work, she approaches her work as a visual mindfulness practice, providing viewers a place to pause and reflect.

Kate graduated from Davidson College where she received formal studio art and art history education. She lives in Nashville, TN, with her family and is driven by collaboration and a commitment to giving back to her community through her work.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I create abstracted representational paintings focused on still life and landscapes. Working in mixed media, I develop custom colors guided by an intuitive sense of color theory, creating compositions that evoke a sense of calm energy. My work explores the interaction between unexpected color combinations and irregular shapes.

My preference for organic forms was largely shaped by carefree childhood summers in the Great Smoky Mountains and my mother’s garden and floral designs. My connection to the outdoors and my part-time social work practice deeply influence the way I observe the world around me. Through painting, I process emotional weight while creating work that feels hopeful, calming, and quietly energetic.

Believing that both viewing and creating art are acts of mindfulness, I approach each piece with a sense of presence, allowing spontaneity to guide my process. My work conveys a sense of freedom, groundedness in the present moment, and the feeling of being fully alive. I am driven by collaboration, giving back, and art’s capacity to heal.
