The Complete Art Placement Guide:
How to Choose the Right Size, Style & Placement
Art has the power to completely transform a space- but only when it’s the right size, placed correctly, and thoughtfully chosen.
If you’ve ever felt like your walls look unfinished (or something just feels “off”), this guide will walk you through exactly how to fix it.
PART 1: CHOOSING THE RIGHT SIZE
The 2/3 Rule (Your Go- To Formula)
Artwork should be about 2/3 to 3/4 the width of the furniture beneath it or the wall it is hung on if there is no furniture.
Don't be timid. You can (and should )go bigger than you probably think.
Quick Reference:

Couch (80")
art should be
~ 53" - 60" wide
Queen Bed
medium- large, centered piece or paired pieces
Console Table
centered piece or cohesive grouping
Common Size Mistakes: Choosing art that’s too small Using one tiny piece on a large wall Spreading small pieces too far apart
PART 2: WHERE TO HANG ART
The Eye- Level Rule

General Rule
hang artwork so the center is 57" - 60" from the floor
Above Furniture
leave 6" - 10" between furniture and art
always try to visually "connect" the two
Common Placement Mistakes: Hanging art too high Floating art with no connection to furniture Misaligned groupings
PART 3: ART BY ROOM

Living Room
go larger + more expressive
anchor the space with one focal piece
Bedroom
softer, calmer pieces
balanced above the bed
Entryway
take advantage of whatever space is available
first impression moment- choose a statement piece
PART 4: LIGHTING AND WINDOWS
Light Affects How Art Looks More Than You Expect
PART 5: STYLE AND COLOR
Don't Match. Balance.
PART 6: HOW FRAMING AFFECTS PLACEMENT
