Early Studies at Ringling Art School, Sarasota, Florida 2 years at UNCG with art major summer studies at Burnsville Art School Received BFA from University of Alabama 1955 Received, MA, from University of New Mexico 1973 ARTIST STATEMENT Eugene De la Croix said, "Painting is the trade that takes the longest to learn and is the most diffcult. It demands errudtion like that of a composer, but is also demands execution like that of a violinist." Art is a life style. There is the art of cooking, the art of travel, the art of relationship with all one's senses. Art is heightened sensual perception. Painting is one approach to the development of seening, assimilating and interpreting. Claude Monet adds to this by saying, "It is by dint of observation and reflection that one makes discoveries." The benefits that come with years of looking, in a more casual way, at the beauty and force of colors, shapes, lines and patterns, have enhanced my life. My paintings make no attempts at social messages. I paint that which I feel an intimacy or an enthusiasm for the beauty of the humor of nature or the human condition. As I evolve in my journey through the years, my work evolves. All honest work is a portrait of the painter.
